Cyprus builders hold their ground in AI search, until the buyer sounds like a beginner

Six questions about building a house in Cyprus, put to an AI search engine, every cited source recorded. Construction turned out to be the strongest sector we have measured on this island: 30 of 71 sources were a builder’s or developer’s own website. But the share does not hold evenly, and where it breaks is the interesting part.

42%

of cited sources were a business’s own website

58%

of the answer belonged to portals, directories and rankings

0/6

questions cited no business website at all

The pattern nobody expects

The more precisely the buyer already knows what they want, the more the answer belongs to the builders. Asked for the best construction company in Cyprus for a house, all four cited sources were company websites. Asked the beginner’s version of the same question (who do I hire to build a house in Cyprus), only two of twelve were. The people who have not chosen yet, the ones still deciding whether to build at all, are handed directories and ranking articles instead of builders.

The six questions, and what answered them

Bold rows are the questions where builders lost the answer. Read the last column as: of everything the engine cited, this many were a construction company’s own website.

Who owns the answers instead

The 41 sources that were not a builder’s site break down into 13 directory entries, 12 ranking articles, 10 property portals and 6 social profiles. Cyprus-specific listing sites do most of the work.

What this means if you build in Cyprus

You are not invisible. That is worth saying plainly, because it is the opposite of what most agencies will tell you, and the measurement does not support the scare story.

What you are missing is the earlier conversation. A buyer who already knows they want a villa in Paphos will find you. A buyer still working out how building in Cyprus even works (permits, stages, what it costs, who does what) gets a ranking article written by someone with no site to build on.

That earlier buyer is the more valuable one, because nobody has framed the decision for them yet. The pages that win them are not sales pages. They are the ones that answer the question honestly and completely, which is also exactly the kind of page an AI engine quotes.

We are correcting our own earlier figure

On 29 July we published a ten-sector overview built on one question per sector, and it reported that no construction company website was cited at all. That reading was too thin. With six questions instead of one, construction turns out to be the strongest sector on the island at 42%. Both numbers were measured honestly; the earlier one simply rested on a single question that happened to fall the other way. We are leaving the correction visible rather than quietly editing the older page, because a measurement series that hides its own corrections is advertising.

What this measurement does not show

Six questions are six questions. An AI search engine does not return the same answer to everyone, results shift over weeks, and a different phrasing would produce a different list. What this does establish is the shape of the market on the day it was measured, with every source recorded and open to inspection. Treat it as a reading, not a verdict, and take the reading yourself before you believe ours.

  • In a July 2026 measurement of six buyer questions about building in Cyprus, 30 of 71 sources cited by an AI search engine were a construction company’s or developer’s own website: 42%, the highest share of any Cyprus sector measured.
  • Cyprus construction companies were cited for specific buyer questions but not general ones: a question naming the best company for building a house returned four company websites out of four sources, while the beginner phrasing returned two out of twelve.
  • Across six construction questions in Cyprus, the 41 sources that were not a company website consisted of 13 directory entries, 12 ranking articles, 10 property portals and 6 social profiles.

How it was measured

Six questions, phrased the way a buyer actually types them, put to an AI search engine for the Cyprus market. Every source the engine cited was recorded and classified by hand: the website of a business in this sector, or a portal, directory, social platform or ranking article. Domains were only counted as a business website after being checked by name. An earlier automated pass counted every unfamiliar domain as a business and overstated the figure badly, which is exactly the kind of error that makes a measurement worthless.

Questions about this measurement

How visible are Cyprus construction companies in AI search?

In a measurement of six buyer questions in July 2026, 30 of 71 cited sources (42%) were a construction company’s or developer’s own website. That is the highest share of any Cyprus sector we have measured; hotels were 15% and restaurants 13%.

Which question do Cyprus builders lose?

The general one. “Who do I hire to build a house in Cyprus” returned twelve sources, of which only two were a builder’s site; the rest were directories and ranking articles. The specific questions (a company for a house, villas in Paphos, a developer in Limassol) were largely answered by the companies themselves.

Who gets cited instead of the builders?

Cyprus listing and directory sites do most of it, together with ranking articles of the “top construction companies in Cyprus” kind, property portals and Facebook pages. Across the six questions that accounted for 41 of 71 sources.

Can I check this for my own company?

Yes, and you should. Ask an AI assistant the questions your buyers ask and read which names come back and which sources it cites. We run the same check systematically and will do it for your company at no charge.

Who measured this

Domani AI. The founders live and work in Larnaca. This is our own market, not a report about someone else’s.

We publish the raw sources with the result, so anyone can repeat the measurement and disagree with it.
